We are incredibly proud to celebrate a significant milestone for Affinity CIC, as our CEO, Charlie Elliott, has been awarded Higher Degree Apprentice of the Year at the prestigious South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards.
The awards recognise outstanding individuals and organisations across the region who are demonstrating excellence in skills development, leadership, and workforce progression through apprenticeships. Competing alongside high-calibre nominees from a wide range of sectors, Charlie’s achievement highlights not only personal dedication, but also the transformative impact of apprenticeships at the highest level.
Charlie is currently completing a Level 7 Strategic Leadership Apprenticeship, a programme designed to develop senior leaders who drive organisational success, innovation, and social impact. This recognition reflects a commitment to continuous professional development, evidence-based leadership, and creating meaningful change within the communities we serve.
Learning in Practice: Leadership That Drives Impact
At Affinity CIC, we believe that leadership should not exist in theory alone—it must translate into real-world outcomes. Charlie’s apprenticeship journey directly informs our work across education, inclusion, and employability, ensuring that our provision remains forward-thinking, responsive, and rooted in best practice.
The Higher Degree Apprentice of the Year award celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional application of learning, measurable impact within their organisation, and a strong commitment to professional growth. Charlie’s win is a testament to the values at the core of our organisation: Integrity, Resilience, Courage, and Conscientiousness.
Partnership with Why Change
Charlie’s Level 7 apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Why Change, a respected local training provider specialising in leadership and organisational development.
Why Change is known for its innovative, values-driven approach to learning, supporting leaders to challenge conventional thinking, reflect deeply on their practice, and lead with authenticity and purpose. Their programmes focus on developing adaptive leadership, emotional intelligence, and systems thinking—skills that are essential in today’s complex social and educational environments.
By working closely with employers, Why Change ensures that learning is not only academically rigorous but also deeply embedded in organisational practice. This partnership has played a key role in enabling Charlie to apply strategic leadership principles directly within Affinity CIC, strengthening our impact and supporting sustainable growth.
A Commitment to Excellence
This achievement represents more than individual success—it reflects our wider commitment to investing in people, developing talent, and championing high-quality apprenticeship pathways as a route to leadership.
As we continue to expand our work and support more young people into education and employment, we remain committed to modelling the standards we expect of others: continuous learning, reflective practice, and excellence in everything we do.
We extend our thanks to Why Change for their ongoing support, and to the South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards for recognising the power of apprenticeships in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
